Review: Bookplate Special
Bookplate Special by Lorna Barrett
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This third book in the Booktown Mystery series was likable, although I did not enjoy this installment as much as the first two. I guess it was the whole Fregan angle. Being somewhat of a germ-a-phobe, myself, I was a bit put off by that particular part of the storyline. However, the appearance of the new hunky policeman, and the absence of the annoying female Sheriff, certainly got my vote. Although the story seemed more complex that the previous two, it did not seem any more or less interesting, just a little harder to follow. Even so, it did keep my attention with its great characters and interesting locale. I will be moving on to the next book in the series.

Review: Bookmarked For Death
Bookmarked For Death by Lorna Barrett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I liked this second installment in the series much better than the first. The story seemed very well thought out, and kept me guessing until the last minute. Continuing on in the development of the main character relationships, I was able to better make out the motivations of certain people. The only thing that I was frustrated about was that the story took place outside of the main bookstore. I felt a little displaced, much like the protagonist, herself. Tricia’s relationship with Russ was also very strange, as I am not so sure I would be that quick to forgive him for his actions. The sheriff continued her ineptitude, and is generally not a very likable personality. Outside of those minor details, I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy mystery, and the ending twist. Third installment, here I come!
Review: Murder is Binding
Murder is Binding by Lorna Barrett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
After reading a few cozy mystery series in that were written in first person, I was a little discombobulated by the thought of reading one in third person. This book quickly put away my apprehension. I really liked the main character, Tricia, and her cat, Miss Marple. However, her sister, Angelica, and the Sheriff, Wendy, promptly got on my nerves. Angelica did grow on me as the story went on, thank goodness – Wendy did not. Of course, what is a mystery without some unconventional characters? The bookstore town atmosphere was very charming and inviting, even for a crime, apparently… albeit the first murder in about 60 years. I must say, however, that the subplot concerning the tracts left in the books was kind of odd. All in all, I liked it enough to buy the rest of the series. I have to say that I have had a lot on my mind since my cat, Margherita, has been ill, and since I was diagnosed with my disc prolapse… this book really took me to another world and off of my problems for awhile. I am looking forward to number two…
Review: A Rose from the Dead
A Rose from the Dead by Kate Collins
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of Kate Collins. However, this installment in the Flower Shop Mystery series left me a bit flat. Although I love the primary characters (Abby, Marco, Nikki, etc.), I was not intrigued by any of the secondary characters that were introduced. I had little empathy for their situations, and did not really like their personalities at all. I was also disappointed that I had figured out who-done-it at about the one-third mark of the book, as it was extremely obvious. Regardless, I am moving on in the series, as I have found the rest of the books to be fantastic. I highly recommend this series.
Review: Acts of Violets
Acts of Violets by Kate Collins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I must admit this book made me nervous. This time, it is the knight in shining armor that has his hands tied. It showed a different side of Marco’s personality that really made me feel empathetic. Abby seemed to be more on her own than ever to solve the mystery. All in all, it really kept me on the edge of my seat.
