Bye, bye, Baby…

CatsDec2004_0015 Our beautiful Bacardi Gold passed on October 17, 2011 from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). In Maine Coons, it is thought to be inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. A DNA-based test for the myosin-binding protein C gene mutation, which has been proven to be causative for HCM in Maine Coon cats, is now available to breeders. Among the grieving family members is my husband, Chris; my father, Paul; my mother, Socorro; and Bacardi’s step-brother, Sambuca and step-sister, Margherita. We know he is now playing joyfully at Rainbow Bridge. He was 14 years of age.

Autosomal dominant is one of several ways that a trait or disorder can be passed down through families. If a disease is autosomal dominant, it means you only need to get the abnormal gene from one parent in order for you to inherit the disease… The abnormal gene “dominates” the pair of genes. If just one parent has a dominant gene defect, each child has a 50% chance of inheriting the disorder. – MedlinePlus

RAM upgrade on supremecenter16.co.uk – 30 minutes downtime

We will be upgrading the RAM on supremecenter16.co.uk, which would result in a 30 minutes downtime. The time window for the upgrade is between 2 AM BST and 3AM BST (3AM CEST – 4AM CEST).

While the technicians at the data center are upgrading the RAM on the server, all services will be off-line, including web sites, e-mails and control panel access. The downtime should not exceed more than 30 minutes. The RAM upgrade will improve the performance of the server.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for your understanding.

PayPal May Be Perpetuating Fraudulent Practices

There is a scam masquerading as an online high-end shoe store, named Shoes Mall Baba. Two weeks after placing an order for $60.50, and paying with PayPal, I received a cheap mouse pad from a private courier instead of the shoes. I was required to sign for the package, and that way they could show PayPal that they mailed a package that was received by the Buyer.

Here is another catch… PayPal requires the Buyer to return the “incorrect merchandise” to the Seller, and provide tracking information. The mailing cost of the package, with tracking, from the U.S. to China, will run anywhere from $30 to $75. The Seller is betting that nobody will want to incur that extra expense. What a great scam!

Today, I was informed by PayPal that they would not be honoring their “Buyer Protection Plan” on my purchase because I refused to send the ridiculous $3 mouse pad back to China. So, I will be closing my Business PayPal account, the PayPal Debit Card has been cancelled, and have made it my mission to warn others about the fraudulent practices of Shoes Mall Baba and possibly the “esteemed” PayPal. Maybe they are working together?
