Review: Shoots to Kill

Shoots to Kill (Flower Shop Mystery Series #7)Shoots to Kill by Kate Collins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Now, this is what I’m talking about! This was an awesome installment in the Flower Shop mystery series. It kept me engaged from beginning to end. The new characters were so interesting, yet some were downright people that you love to hate, like Libby. I really liked all of the scenarios in the book, including the issues with Marco and Abby.

Review: Bookplate Special

Bookplate Special (A Booktown Mystery, #3)Bookplate Special by Lorna Barrett

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This third book in the Booktown Mystery series was likable, although I did not enjoy this installment as much as the first two. I guess it was the whole Fregan angle. Being somewhat of a germ-a-phobe, myself, I was a bit put off by that particular part of the storyline. However, the appearance of the new hunky policeman, and the absence of the annoying female Sheriff, certainly got my vote. Although the story seemed more complex that the previous two, it did not seem any more or less interesting, just a little harder to follow. Even so, it did keep my attention with its great characters and interesting locale. I will be moving on to the next book in the series.

Happy New Year – 2011!

And, what a Happy New Year it was for me! I just found out that I am the Grand Prize winner of the Holiday Scavenger Hunt Contest. I will be receiving a new Kindle 3G Wireless Reading Device from Access Romance! The news was so exciting to receive, first thing this morning. Thanks, Stacy!

As many of you know, I have been suffering from an L5-S1 Disc Compression and Prolapse since August, which has made it very difficult to get around. I actually spent three weeks unable to walk at all. So, digital cable, the Internet, and books have been my best friends for the last few months. My dear husband, Chris, bought me a NOOK with Free 3G Wireless and Wi-Fi in October, which I love. However, I have noticed that some eBooks that are available as Nookbook format, are not available in Kindle format, and vice versa. I am so excited that I will have two choices from now on.

Now, to find a cool cover…

Review: Bookmarked For Death

Bookmarked For Death (A Booktown Mystery, #2)Bookmarked For Death by Lorna Barrett

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I liked this second installment in the series much better than the first. The story seemed very well thought out, and kept me guessing until the last minute.  Continuing on in the development of the main character relationships, I was able to better make out the motivations of certain people. The only thing that I was frustrated about was that the story took place outside of the main bookstore. I felt a little displaced, much like the protagonist, herself. Tricia’s relationship with Russ was also very strange, as I am not so sure I would be that quick to forgive him for his actions. The sheriff continued her ineptitude, and is generally not a very likable personality. Outside of those minor details, I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy mystery, and the ending twist. Third installment, here I come!

Review: Murder is Binding

Murder is Binding (A Booktown Mystery, #1)Murder is Binding by Lorna Barrett

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After reading a few cozy mystery series in that were written in first person, I was a little discombobulated by the thought of reading one in third person. This book quickly put away my apprehension. I really liked the main character, Tricia, and her cat, Miss Marple. However, her sister, Angelica, and the Sheriff, Wendy, promptly got on my nerves. Angelica did grow on me as the story went on, thank goodness – Wendy did not. Of course, what is a mystery without some unconventional characters? The bookstore town atmosphere was very charming and inviting, even for a crime, apparently… albeit the first murder in about 60 years. I must say, however, that the subplot concerning the tracts left in the books was kind of odd. All in all, I liked it enough to buy the rest of the series. I have to say that I have had a lot on my mind since my cat, Margherita, has been ill, and since I was diagnosed with my disc prolapse… this book really took me to another world and off of my problems for awhile. I am looking forward to number two…
