Night in the 40′s Dance in 2012
A Night in the 40’s” Big Band Dance will be held Saturday, March 17; doors open at 4:30pm. All participants are encouraged to come dressed in the style of the 40s. Danny Davis from AM 1230 KOY will be the Master of Ceremonies. A free swing dance lesson will be given by Nathaniel and Elizabeth of Savoy Hop Cats at 4:45 to help you get ready to dance the night away! Entertainment begins at 5:30 p.m. with The Kathy Donald Jazz Ensemble, a 1940’s Musical Show with singers and a professional set of piano, bass, drums, saxophone and clarinet, featuring Kathy Donald, formerly of The Art Royer USO Show. Accompanying Kathy will be vocalists, Susan Gerkin and Lizz Reeves Fidler. At 7:30pm, swing time kicks in featuring the Sonoran Swing Big Band Orchestra playing favorite Big Band Music from the war years. There will also be a contest for the best-dressed 1940’s costume and a swing dance contest, and participants will have the opportunity to get their picture taken in front of the B-17 Sentimental Journey.
Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at the event including a dinner plate of baked chicken, or pasta with marina or alfredo plus dinner salad and roll. Tickets for “A Night in the 40’s” are $35 per person purchased in advance and $40 per person the day of the dance. FHT 25th Anniversary Show Tune Marathon Simulcast on the Web!
Just wanted to let everyone know that the Fountain Hills Theater 25th anniversary show tune marathon will be simulcast on the web! In celebration of our 25th season, FHT performers and friends will be singing showtunes continuously for 25 hours from 7:00pm Friday, Sept. 9th through until 8:00pm Saturday, Sept 10th! Many people cringe at the very thought of community theater. They are perceived as unprofessional venues meant for actor wannabes and their families. This is so far from the truth. Community theater is the bedrock, the foundation of our theater community. This is where budding talents are trained and encouraged and where individual performer’s dreams are nurtured and fulfilled. Certainly, these not-for-profit venues cannot compete with their larger, professional cousins and must be viewed with a different standard of criticism but the need for them should never be in question.
