FOUNTAIN HILLS THEATER ‘PUSHES THE LIMITS’ WITH A 25 HOUR SHOW TUNE MARATHON

In celebration of their 25th anniversary season, Fountain Hills Theater will kick off the silver season with a 25 hour show tune marathon!  Beginning at 7:00pm on Friday, Sept. 9th, performers will sing show tunes continuously until 8:00pm on Saturday, Sept 10th.  That’s 25 full hours.  One hour for each year that Fountain Hills Theater has been producing quality theater in the north east valley.

Audiences are invited to stop by the theater during any of those hours to enjoy the music and encourage the performers.  Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted.  There will be refreshments available to anyone stopping by.  The event will be submitted to The Guinness Book of World Records for consideration.

Peter J. Hill, the Artistic/Managing Director of the theater said ‘Well, we were looking for something pretty spectacular to kick off this milestone season and, if nothing else, this is spectacular!’  Performers will work as relay teams singing in ½ hour increments for the full 25 hours.  Hill said; ‘I hope many of our audience, supporters and friends will come out to watch and encourage this team effort – especially those hardy singers who will be taking those sessions in the wee hours of Saturday morning.  I wonder if anyone will stop by and listen at say, 3:30am?!  But, to set the record, we’ll be singing!’

Fountain Hills Theater is proud to announce the return of the funniest, most honored musical in the history of Broadway: The Producers! This production, presented in January of 2011, was one of the most successful, acclaimed shows ever produced at FHCT. The run finished with an extensive waiting list and requests poured in to remount the show, which FHCT decided to do this summer.

Outrageous, hilarious, unexpected, a wee bit naughty and a sure-fire hit! Debuting on Broadway in 2001, this Mel Brooks musical quickly racked up a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The Producers follows the adventures and misadventures of Max Bialystock, a washed-up Broadway producer, and Leo Bloom, a meek accountant, who together set out to produce a full-fledged flop – and fleece their investors in the process – but unwittingly wind up with a hit on their hands. These two schemers will sing and dance their way through the greatest show biz scam there ever was!

The Producers is produced by Patricia Tonzi and Patty Torrilhon and directed by Peter J. Hill. The show is choreographed by Noel Irick and musically directed by Flora Mogerman. The Producers features; Scott Hyder, Michael Stewart, Morgan Ottersbach, Terry Gadaire, Patrick Russo and Matt Mcdonald. Ensemble members include; Bilen Astatke, Sean Bollinger, Heidi Carpenter, Chris Fidler, Brittany Dawn Foster, Melanie Foster, Bill Graham, Sandy Gulledge, Natalie Kilker, Leah Klein, Jamie Novotny, Tanya Schoenwolf, Shira Schwartz, Kelly Smith, Ryan Smith, Patricia Tonzi and Tom Vinopal.

Many people cringe at the very thought of community theater. They are perceived as unprofessional venues meant for actor wannabes and their families. This is so far from the truth. Community theater is the bedrock, the foundation of our theater community. This is where budding talents are trained and encouraged and where individual performer’s dreams are nurtured and fulfilled. Certainly, these not-for-profit venues cannot compete with their larger, professional cousins and must be viewed with a different standard of criticism but the need for them should never be in question.
